Early life
Orlando Jonathan Blanchard Bloom was born in Canterbury, Kent, on January 13, 1977. Sonia Constance Josephine (née Copeland), his mother, was born in India and grew up in Australia and Japan with her family. Bloom held the belief that his mother’s husband, the anti-Apartheid South African novelist Harry Saul Bloom, was his biological father until he was thirteen years old. In reality, he died when he was just four years old. He learned later from his mother that Colin Stone, a friend of the family and his mother’s partner, was actually his biological father.
Bloom went to St. Edmund’s School in Canterbury before moving to London in 1993 to attend Fine Arts College, Hampstead. There, he took an A-level course in drama, photography, and sculpture that took two years to complete. After that, he got a scholarship to the British American Drama Academy and joined the National Youth Theatre. His first roles as an actor were in episodes of the television series “Casualty” and “Midsomer Murders” as well as the 1997 film “Wilde.”He began studying acting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London following these projects.
Career
Bloom got his first big role just two days after he graduated from Guildhall in 1999.
