The former fiancée of deceased football star Aaron Hernandez is locked in a heated court battle over control of a trust fund set up for their daughter Avielle after his death.
Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez asked the fund’s trustee, David Schwartz, to pay $10,697 for Avielle’s dance lessons. Schwartz refused, citing Jenkins-Hernandez’s concerning spending that seemed to personally benefit her instead of her daughter.
Some questioned expenses include:
- $36,858 on clothes, including maternity wear
- $39,347 on home goods
- $25,577 on online shopping
- $11,792 on self-care like gym fees and salon visits
The trust was meant to cover Avielle’s daily needs after receiving Hernandez’s NFL pension and Social Security funds. Schwartz argues Jenkins-Hernandez may have improperly spent these funds as well.
Now Schwartz wants Jenkins-Hernandez removed as Avielle’s conservator to better control spending of the remaining $700,000 trust. But Jenkins-Hernandez insists the money is for her daughter’s benefit.
The case remains pending while the court decides who should manage the funds intended solely for Avielle’s future.
Shayanna Jenkins, Aaron Hernandez’s former fiancée, is speaking out once more following the flurry of conversations sparked by Netflix’s new documentary series, Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez.
Shayanna said in an interview on Good Morning America on Wednesday that the docuseries revealed intimate details about the former NFL player that neither she nor Aaron admitted to knowing when they were together.
The movie talks about his sexuality and says he had multiple sexual relationships with men, including one with a lover while he was in prison.
According to People, Shayanna stated to GMA, “You can’t describe someone’s sexuality without them being here.”Even though I have a child with Aaron, no one can tell you what he was feeling inside.
She continued, stating that even if Aaron were bisexual, it would not have affected her feelings for him. I wish I had been informed if he did feel that way or had the urge. Because I would not have loved him any other way if he hadn’t told me, I wish he had. Shayanna said, “I would have understood.”
She went on to say, “It’s not shaming, and I don’t think anyone should feel shaming on who they are inside, regardless of who they love.”I believe it’s something wonderful.

According to the New York Post, a note that Aaron left behind referred to Shayanna as his “soul-mate” indicates that he committed suicide in his jail cell in 2017 after being convicted of the murder of his future brother-in-law.
Aaron was diagnosed with chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) by Boston University researchers after his death, which has been linked to impulsive and aggressive behavior.
Shayanna stated that she will stop using social media.
In her Instagram post announcing her social media hiatus, Shayanna did not explicitly mention the Netflix film, but she did tell GMA that she did not want to participate in the production of Killer Inside when asked about it. She stated, “I wanted to put it behind me and let my daughter grow without having any bad memories to look back on.”
Because so many people have tried to get Shayanna to talk about Aaron, she has decided to stop using social media. Because of this, it is unlikely that her wishes will come true.
“I needed to tell every one of you sweet spirits I have attempted to peruse each message sent on IG and through email (positive and negative)” Shayanna wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday.
Together, she and Aaron had a daughter
In 2012, the couple welcomed Avielle, their daughter. People said that they got engaged later that year, and even though they didn’t get married, Shayanna started using Aaron’s last name.
Shayanna now has two children.
She announced on Instagram in 2018 that she was expecting a second child. Shayanna stated at the time, “I wanted to take time, process, and post when I was ready.”I wanted some alone time with my daughter; we are so excited about the new addition and the new chapter that will soon begin.
Additionally, Shayanna has re-engaged.
