Jackie Chan Claims He Spent 12 Months in His Mother’s Womb and is That Even Possible?

Jackie Chan is an iconic Chinese actor who is best known for his roles in action films and moves in martial arts.

However, the 64-year-old’s other fame comes from the fact that he was born three months early and spent a total of 12 months in his mother’s womb.
The actor, who was born in Hong Kong, has been questioned multiple times about the unbelievable claim after making it early in his career. Each time, he has insisted that it is true.

When asked if it was true that he was born after “12 months in the womb,” he responded “yes” in a 2010 interview with UK talk show host Jonathan Ross, adding that he was a “huge baby.”

Chan claims that his parents considered selling their son to pay for the medical bills, but was persuaded by friends who loaned them the money to keep him because they couldn’t afford the surgery (a cesarean section).

We are aware of what you are thinking because that is exactly what we were thinking: Is it really possible for this baby to be born three months late? Certainly not.

Dr. Joseph Sgroi, an obstetrician in Melbourne, says that Chan’s claims are “highly unlikely” to be true.

You probably wouldn’t have a pregnancy that lasted more than 10 or 11 months.

Dr. Sgroi suggested, “It may just be that his mother had irregular periods and she might have thought that she was three months more pregnant than she was.”

He went on to say that there aren’t many statistics on babies who are born very late. This is due to the fact that it is strictly prohibited in Australia and the majority of developed nations.

What happens when a baby is overdue?

to help us comprehend why Dr. Sgroi initially stated that the medically incorrect definition of “term” is 40 weeks.

Instead, a baby born after 37 weeks of gestation is referred to as a “term.”
Between 37 and 38 weeks and six days, we refer to them as an early term.

Between 39 weeks and 40 weeks and six days, we refer to babies as full term, between 41 weeks and 41 weeks and six days, and after 42 weeks, we refer to them as post-term.

“In Australia, there is a chance of less than 5% of pregnancies that last past 42 weeks.”

According to Dr. Sgroi, physicians will “in most scenarios” induce women after 41 weeks and three days, and they “definitely” do not want pregnancies that last past 42 weeks.

He stated, “We’re monitoring and making an educated assessment [during the third trimester] as to whether the pregnancy can continue or alternatively whether we should bring on labor.”

The gynecologist stated that doctors recommend induction at this stage for a number of reasons, the most important of which is that stillbirth rates rise between 41 and 42 weeks.
This rate is somewhere between one in 1,000 pregnancies between 40 and 41 weeks.

It could be two in a thousand by 42 weeks, he stated.

Therefore, “the risk is still fairly low, but it is not zero.”

According to Dr. Sgroi, complications such as a baby becoming too big to deliver vaginally and a baby growing too slowly also increase at late and post-term gestation. Therefore, it stands to reason that premature birth is preferable for everyone.

In fact, the ARRIVE study, which was conducted in 2018, found that if all mothers were electively induced at 39 weeks, there was a lower rate of stillbirths and fewer c-sections needed.

Dr. Sgroi added that there were no ongoing developmental differences between babies born at 39 weeks and 41 weeks.

He said that the most important thing pregnant women in Australia can do is trust their mother’s instincts and tell someone if they notice anything wrong with their baby, like less movement.

Regarding Jackie Chan, it’s possible that his outrageous claim is just a translation issue.
The Lunar calendar is used to determine an individual’s age in traditional Chinese culture. Baby is considered one year old at birth according to this method, and each Chinese (lunar) New Year, it grows one year older.

It’s possible that Jackie Chan repeats his claim that he was born at one-year-old each time, unaware of the uproar. Because he seems to think that the real reason the story is important to him is how his family was affected by his cesarean birth.
