Orlando Bloom, better known by his stage name Orlando, was born on January 13, 1977, in Canterbury, Kent, England. He is an actor from England.
He went to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London to study acting.
Early life
At first, Bloom believed that his mother’s husband, the anti-apartheid novelist Harry Bloom (1913–1981), who was born in South Africa and died when Bloom was four years old, was his biological father. However, Bloom’s mother told him when he was thirteen that Colin Stone, her partner, and family friend, was actually Bloom’s biological father. After Harry Bloom passed away, Stone, the principal of the Concorde International language school, became Orlando Bloom’s legal guardian.
Sonia Constance Josephine (née Copeland), Bloom’s mother, was born in Kolkata, India, the daughter of a physician and surgeon Francis John Copeland and Betty Constance Josephine (née Walker). Photographer Sebastian Copeland is a cousin of Bloom’s through her. Bloom’s mother’s family was of English descent and lived in India, Japan, and Tasmania (Australia). Some of them were originally from Kent.
Career
Bloom is best known for playing Legolas in The Lord of the Rings (film series, 2001-2003), a role he played again in The Hobbit (film series, 2012-2014). Through roles in epic fantasy, historical, and adventure films, most notably as Will Turner in the Pirates of the Caribbean series, he attracted even more attention. The franchise is the 14th highest-grossing film series of all time and has earned more than $4.5 billion worldwide.
He made appearances in Hollywood films like Troy (2004), an epic historical war film, and Paris. Additionally, he played Balian de Ibelin in the 2005 film Kingdom of Heaven. He played a role in the TV series Carnival Row on Amazon Prime (2019).
In 2013, Bloom also appeared in a Broadway production of Romeo and Juliet. He won the BAFTA Britannia Humanitarian Award in 2015.
Samantha Bloom is his older sibling. He attended St. Peter’s Methodist School in Canterbury, England, for his primary education. Bloom then transferred to St. Edmund’s School in Canterbury after attending the junior school of the King’s School. He made his acting debut on television in roles in the 1997 television series Midsomer Murders. In 1997’s Wilde, he finally made his film debut.
