Amidst reports of a potential reunion between ex-spouses Robin Wright and Sean Penn, the “House of Cards” actress has finally broken her silence, setting the record straight on the rumors.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Wright, 55, opened up about her relationship with Penn, 60, and addressed the rumors about their reunion, saying that the two are, in fact, very close and will always be a family.
“We’re always gonna be a family. Sean and I have known each other for 35 years, and we’ve been through everything together,” Wright said.
The former couple had been married for 14 years before their divorce in 2010.
They share two children, daughter Dylan, 30, and son Hopper, 28.
Since their divorce, both have moved on with other partners. Wright was previously engaged to actor Ben Foster before their split in 2015.
She then married French fashion executive Clement Giraudet in 2018. Penn, on the other hand, was engaged to actress Charlize Theron before their split in 2015.
Despite their separate lives, Wright and Penn have maintained a close relationship over the years, with the “Milk” actor even presenting his ex-wife with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2018 American Film Institute Gala.
“We’ve been there for each other through life’s ups and downs. We’ve been each other’s confidante and support system,” Wright said.
The rumors of their reunion began circulating after the two were spotted vacationing together in Hawaii last month. However, Wright clarified that the trip was a family vacation, and they were there for their son’s birthday.
“It was our son’s birthday, and we wanted to celebrate as a family. Sean and I were there, along with our kids and some of our closest friends,” she said.
Wright also addressed the misconceptions surrounding their relationship, saying that they are not back together romantically.
“People are always going to speculate about our relationship.
They have their own ideas of what we should or should not be doing. But the truth is, Sean and I are just very close friends. We love and respect each other, and we always will,” she said.
Despite their close relationship, Wright admitted that their divorce was not an easy process and that it took a lot of work to get to where they are today.
“Divorce is never easy, but Sean and I both knew that we had to do what was best for our family. It took time, but we’ve worked through our issues and are now in a good place,” she said.
Wright’s comments have put to rest the rumors about her rekindling her romance with Penn.
