Face the facts: The Nothing Phone 1 was more extravagant than practical. It stood out with its design but lacked camera and software support, at least in the beginning. By flooding the phone with software engineers and then releasing multiple updates that improve the camera’s performance, nothing has worked to address the phone’s issues.
However, Nothing has always been committed to the customization nerd, opening its kernel sources and the entire device tree to third-party development to encourage it. That prompted the folks at Paranoid Android to get involved, and after four long months of alpha and beta testing, the stable Topaz build for the Nothing Phone 1 based on Android 13 is now available.
Interestingly, Nothing OS 1.5’s public release coincides with the release of Paranoid’s ROM. Consider installing Paranoid Android Topaz if your Phone 1 was previously running the Android 13 Nothing OS beta. The experience provided by the custom ROM is vastly superior to that provided by the phone’s standard software.

You will be pleased to learn that almost all of the broken functionality and bugs have been fixed in the stable release if you were using the Paranoid Android beta at the time and were dissatisfied with some of the features that were missing. This incorporates the Glyph combinations that were not working in the past Topaz beta.
There is no need to wipe your data when upgrading from the beta to the stable build. However, if you want to use the ROM for the first time, you will need to reset the entire device in order to unlock the phone’s bootloader and flash a custom recovery. However, if you want more customization options and improved performance from your Phone 1, the effort might be well worth it.
