Despite the fact that some people insist they only watch Twilight marathons ironically, the Twilight saga has grown from a global phenomenon to a cringe-inducing movie franchise.
Twilight was not an easy ride for some of the actors, despite the fact that it has launched the careers of its main stars. And it turns out that Taylor Lautner, who played werewolf Jacob Black in the iconic Twilight trilogy, had his entire acting career influenced—albeit negatively—by his role in the vampire romance films.
The physical demands of playing Jacob Black were so great that the creators of Twilight almost recast Lautner because they weren’t sure he could put on enough muscle to play Jacob when he took on the werewolf appearance.
The actor, on the other hand, was able to keep the role because he worked hard and got bigger, so he got a lot of scenes where he didn’t wear a shirt.
However, they also kind of ruined Lautner’s career, not only because the weather on set would almost always be “horrendous” and he would simply get cold without his shirt.
Lautner did receive a lot of suggestions for roles after the Twilight saga ended, but many of them involved him taking off his shirt for no particular reason. Lautner was not particularly interested in that as an actor, so he turned down all of those offers until there were none left.
Lautner is no longer as well-known as he once was as a movie star and idol. After the Twilight series came to an end, he worked on Grown Ups 2, which came out in 2013, and in 2016, he made an appearance on Ryan Murphy’s comedy-horror series Scream Queens.
After being engaged for a year, Lautner and Taylor Dome recently announced their wedding. The actor previously stated that his girlfriend would adopt his last name, effectively making her his full namesake; however, the couple has not yet disclosed whether this is the case.
