Around a week ago, Nintendo announced that the Nintendo NES Mini has been discontinued in Japan. The NES Mini is a gem of a console for retro gamers. The NES Mini has been a big success for Nintendo but they are stopping the production of the NES Mini, only 6 months after it’s official release.
A Nintendo representative told Eurogamer that the console has been officially discontinued in Europe too. This marks the official end of the worldwide production of the Nintendo NES Mini.
“We can confirm that we are no longer manufacturing the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System. If production resumes in the future, an update will be posted on the official Nintendo website.”
– Told Nintendo Spokesperson to Eurogamer.
The Nintendo NES Mini launched in late 2016 and it was a big hit. The console almost immediately sold out everywhere. Nintendo promised to keep up with the high-demand of the NES Mini but the new stock also wasn’t enough.
The console launched with a price tag of £49.99. It was a miniature version of the original NES Mini and it came with 30 games. However, after the discontinuation of the console, prices are getting really high. Many people on eBay are selling the NES Mini for around £200-£250 per piece. That’s around 4 times more than the original cost of the NES Mini.
