Childhood Mary Louise “Meryl” Streep was born on June 22, 1949, in Summit, New Jersey. Harry William and Dana David, both her younger brothers, are also actors. Mary Wilkinson Streep was an art editor and commercial artist, and Harry William Streep Jr. was an executive in the pharmaceutical industry. Streep was a cheerleader and homecoming queen during her senior year at Bernards High School in Bernardsville, New Jersey. She also took four years of opera lessons from Estelle Liebling and appeared in numerous school plays.

Streep went on to Vassar College and earned her degree there in 1971. When she performed in the play “Miss Julie” at Vassar in 1969, she became interested in professional theater. After that, she went to Yale School of Drama to get an MFA, which she got in 1975. She performed in more than a dozen stage productions annually while attending Yale, earning a living as a waitress and a typer.

In 1975, Streep worked at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s National Playwrights Conference, one of his first professional gigs. Over the course of six weeks, she performed in five plays. She moved to New York City the same year and appeared in numerous stage productions all over the city. These include the Delacorte Theater’s 1976 productions of Henry V and Measure for Measure, the Martin Beck Theatre’s 1977 production of Happy End, and the Playhouse Theatre’s 1977 production of Secret Service.

Most of her scenes in the 1977 film “Julia,” in which she starred alongside Jane Fonda, were cut. She auditioned for the role of his girlfriend in the 1978 film “The Deer Hunter” at the suggestion of Robert de Niro, who had first seen her in her stage production of “The Cherry Orchard.”She received her first nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards for her performance in the film.

Streep would go on to have an impressive acting career, to put it mildly. Her work in “Kramer Vs.” earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. A year after “The Deer Hunter,” “Kramer” came out in 1979. She has also appeared in notable films like “Manhattan,” “Sophie’s Choice,” “Silkwood,” “Defending Your Life,” “Death Becomes Her,” “The Bridges of Madison County,” “One True Thing,” “Adaptation,” “The Devil Wears Prada,” and “Mamma Mia!” is her most commercially successful release, bringing in $609 million.

Streep has also appeared in television shows outside of film, such as “Angels in America” (2003) and “Freedom: A History of the United States,” “Web Therapy,” and “Big Little Lies”In addition, she has narrated a number of documentaries, including “Ocean Voyagers” (2007) and “Makers: “Five Came Back” and “Women Who Make America” (2013).
