Nokia is definitely working on the Nokia 8.1. It has been a while since the Nokia 8 has been stranded. Not only is it due for an update, but also a revamp when it comes to keeping it in line with the rest of the Nokia smartphone lineup. The Nokia 8.1 has just appeared on Geekbench suggesting a hint of what we could expect from the Nokia 8.1 internally.
According to the Geekbench, the Nokia 8.1 features a Snapdragon 710. However, if you know anything regarding the Nokia 8, the Nokia 8 featured a Snapdragon 835 SoC, which is a flagship processor found in devices from 2017. Seeing a mid-range processor in the Nokia 8.1 would be a bummer, but hey, this would certainly mean that the Nokia 9 might be coming trough. Anyways, continuing with the details derived from GeekBench, the Nokia 8.1 seems to sport 4GB RAM and managed to score 1841 and 5807 in their single-core and multi-core tests, respectively.
Now that the Nokia 8 is more than a year old, the Nokia 8.1 should be a decent update over the aging Nokia in the processing department, a slight one though. Now that Nokia doesn’t have a flagship to showcase in 2018, we’re certain that Nokia is definitely brewing a flagship, most probably, the infamous Nokia 9 behind their curtains. With the Nokia 8, Nokia managed to dodge the flagship hype with the Nokia 8, but now that they’re empty handed. For now, we’re definitely keen to see which cards Nokia plays next.
2019 is certainly going to be a harsh year for the flagship market, especially with the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro around. With phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Note 10 already their appearance through the rumor mills, who knows how harsh the competition would be in 2019. Hopefully, we might see the Nokia 9 with a triple camera setup like the Galaxy A7.
