Oh boy, Xiaomi has yet again fulfilled another promise. As promised by Pocophone’s head, Jai Mani, the Poco F1 has finally received support to record super slo-mo videos.
It has been a while since Xiaomi’s Poco sub-brand took notice of its fans. In a tweet by the General Manager at Poco India, C Manmohan confirmed that the new addition would be making its way to all Poco F1 devices very soon via an OTA update dubbed as MIUI 10 Beta 8.12.4. With the new 960 FPS super slo-mo now unlocked, we’re really intrigued to see what Xiaomi has in store for the Poco F1 as we would soon be publishing our own samples of those crispy shots really soon.
For those who’ve missed out, the main rear shooter found on the Poco F1 is the same camera sensor found on the Google Pixel 3/Pixel 3 XL, Zenfone 5Z, Mi 8 and a number of other devices. Given that a lot of these devices feature very similar internal spec sheets, its incredible to see that Xiaomi has finally enabled the feature on Poco devices so that it would be capable of competing with the big boys.
We’ve done several tests between the stock MIUI camera app and the Google camera port in the past and found that samples taken with the stock camera app looked pale compared to the shots taken with the Google camera port. Since 960 FPS recording is yet to be available, we’re expecting to see how the two apps would stack up against each another given the performance improvements the Google camera port is bringing to the table.
What’s left to be seen as a part of Jai Mani’s list of promises is to be able to capture 4K video at 60 FPS. Jai Mani took it to Twitter soon after the Poco F1 debuted and announced that they would be adding 4K/60FPS recording if they had enough requests. Now that one half of it has been fulfilled, we can’t wait to see when 4K/60FPS recording would be enabled given that it pretty much has become a standard on Snapdragon 845-powered devices.
