Razer has finally joined the race of manufacturers enabling 4k/60FPS for phones that feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 SoC. After months of wait, Razer has finally delivered on the update.
Thanks to a quick catch by one of the editors at XDA, it was finally confirmed that the latest Android Pie update for the Razer Phone 2 enables 4k/60FPS under the default camera app on the Razer Phone 2. Furthermore, Mishaal Rehman noticed the lack of any mention regarding the inclusion on the press releases.
With the Razer Phone 2 finally joining the race, it seems like Google’s Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are the only devices that continue to skimp on last year’s 4K/60FPS ordeal even though the Snapdragon 845 is clearly capable of supporting it. Funny thing is that some modders had reported a successful unlock of the 4k/60FPS option on older devices as well that sported the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 from 2017, more specifically, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8.
Whether this was a mistake from the folks over at Razer is yet to be seen as Xiaomi has to do some intensive testing to enable 4k/60FPS for the Poco F1, Mi 8 and Mi Mix 3 several months after they were released. For now, all we could hope for is to see that the feature is stable and does actually manage to support a decent time of recording at that frame rate and resolution. Nonetheless, a great addition from the folks over at Razer, that’s for sure!
