Before marrying the renowned actress Betty, Ludden was in a happily married relationship with Nueces Region, Texas-born Margaret McGloin. The two took their wedding promises on 11 October 1943 before their close friends and domestic members.

At the time Ludden wedded McGloin, he was just beginning his career in American Entertainment Manufacturing. He was carving a career as an advisor for adolescence in teen magazine columns and on the radio. The daughter of Gilbert James McGloin besides Cyrene Ameta Cook McGloin, Margaret McGloin was buried at Gate of Heaven Cemetery situated at Hawthorne, Westchester County, New York. She had four siblings, counting Gilbert James McGloin II, John Patrick McGloin, Barbara Ann McGloin Johnson, then Kathleen McGannon McGloin Homer.
